Visitors’ Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What are the worship schedules?
Answer: We offer many different opportunities to join us in worship. Find out which services fit you best!

Question: How do I follow along with the service?
Answer: Before each service our ushers greet the church community at the front entrance. At this time the ushers will hand each person a service leaflet that maps out the entire worship, making it simple to follow along.

Question: What do people wear?
Answer: There is an assortment of dress at our services that varies among the generations.

Question: Is it alright to bring children?
Answer: Yes, of course! There are many ways that children and youth of all ages can participate in worship at St. Thomas. From age appropriate services to being an acolyte. Click Here to find out more!

Question: Do you have programs for children and youth?
Answer: We offer programs for children and youth of all ages. In fact, our Children and Youth Ministry is considered to be among the top two in all of Pennsylvania! Learn all about our offerings for children and youth!

Question: Is it okay to take Communion even if I’m not Episcopalian?
All baptized persons – whether Episcopalian or not – are welcome to come forward to the altar rail and receive the bread and wine. If you have not yet been baptized, you are welcome to come to the rail and receive a blessing instead of Communion. Simply cross your arms over your chest to signal to the priest that you wish to receive a blessing. If you desire a stronger Christian life, we urge you to participate. Baptized children of all ages are included in this invitation. Gluten-free wafers are available; simply notify the priest when you come forward to receive. “Though we are many, we are one body, because we share one bread, one cup.”

Question: What if I would like to become a member?
Answer: St. Thomas’ Church welcomes all visitors to participate fully in the life of our community. We invite you to continue your journey with us; ask questions, attend our worship services and educational offerings, and participate in the activities in our community. Our Newcomer Commission seeks to invite and welcome new members into St. Thomas’; while nurturing and helping to incorporate current members into the parish community. We encourage you to learn about becoming a member!

Question: Is there a program after service?
Answer: Yes. Following the 10:00am Rite II Eucharist we offer an Educational and Spiritual Formation Hour: Small Groups, Sunday Faith Forum (beginning at 11:00am and concluding around noon) and Discovery Hour (ages 3-18) (beginning at 10:00 and concluding at 11:00).

Question: I have additional questions…Where can I go for answers?
Answer: If you have any additional questions that we have not provided answers, please call our Director of Parish Participation Emily Given at 215-233-3970 x126.
