This is the week of weeks! There is no better time of the year to nourish and deepen our faith than Holy Week. I urge you to move to a different rhythm of life this week and to give yourself to God in a deeper manner so that God might fill your sail’s with the Spirit and help you come fully alive.
Go easy on email this week. Live in real time with real conversations, not posts on Facebook or Instagram. Come and worship. Tell your friends, family and social network that you are devoting this week to God and to nourishing your faith and invite them to do the same.
Be with God and the people of God in the House of God. God will do the rest. Carry whoever and whatever you worry about with you. Bring your burdens, concerns, hopes and dreams into the sanctuary and lift them up to God. Trust. Have faith. God will transform them. Join us for:
· Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. – a reverent, highly experiential service, where all are invited to come forward and have their feet washed, receive the Eucharist and watch as the altar and chancel are stripped in darkness while the choir sings Psalm 51. Stay for the Vigil afterwards, if you desire.
· Good Friday at noon – perhaps the most profound service of the year, where we confront our mortality and sinfulness and focus on Jesus’ death upon the Cross. This year, we invite all in attendance to come forward in silence and gather by the cross while the choir sings the Reproaches.
· Easter Vigil at 7 p.m. on Saturday – this is clearly the most ancient and mystical service of the year. Many say that it is their favorite service bar none. A chocolate and champagne reception follow afterwards in the Thayer Lounge.
· Easter Morning at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. – Christ is Risen. This is the defining belief of all Christians. It is not a metaphor. It is not a symbol. It is not a fairytale. Two billion plus Christians around the planet gather in churches this day to mark the hinge of time, Jesus’ triumph over sin, death and evil, opening the doors of eternal life.
If you come and give yourself prayerfully to God, you will leave spiritually renewed and restored. You will be a more powerful disciple wherever you go. God needs you! The world needs you! And we need God’s love and grace to navigate our way in the world and serve as the hands and feet, the mind or heart of Christ each day.
With love and prayers during this most sacred Holy Week,
