I am writing to let you know that on Tuesday, May 16, our beloved Pastor William (Bill) deHeyman died peacefully at home with his wife, Martha. A service will be held to celebrate Pastor Bill’s life on Wednesday, May 24th at 3:00pm at St. Thomas’ Church followed by a reception in MacColl Auditorium. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas’ Church Music Fund.
For 15 years, Pastor Bill welcomed and led many children and their families into their first experience of worship and faith formation.
“How to talk to your kids about death.” On Thursday night, May 18th I will be available to meet with families for questions and discussion from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Thayer Lounge. Childcare will be provided at 6:15pm.
On Friday, May 19th from 9:15am-10:15am Mother Liz and I will both be available for questions and discussion. All parents are welcomed. For many families, this may be the first significant older adult in their son or daughter’s life who has died. We will also be preparing resources and materials to help families discuss death and heaven and the afterlife with children.
Almighty God, our Father in heaven, before whom live all who die in the Lord: Receive our brother Bill into the courts of your heavenly dwelling place. Let his heart and soul now ring out in joy to you, O Lord, the living God, and the God of those who live. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.
With blessings at Eastertide and in the hope of the Resurrection to Eternal Life,
