E-mail Marek or call: 215-233-3970 x120Marek has served as Rector of St. Thomas Church since 1995. During that time the church has expanded from 30 to 85 ministries and our membership has grown to 1,350. He oversees our staff and works closely with our Vestry to lead our church. He was instrumental in helping St. Thomas become involved in international mission and develop one of the strongest ministries for children and youth in the diocese and an excellent program for adult spiritual formation. Marek attended Emory University and Yale Divinity School. He serves on the Diocesan Council, the Church Foundation and the Compass Rose Society, which assists the Archbishop of Canterbury. He has been invited to preach in London, Miami, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Tennessee and other places. In 2011, he started The Bible Challenge to help our parishioners read the entire Bible in a year. Due to its success, he created the Center for Biblical Studies, which promotes The Bible Challenge nationally and globally. Over 2,000 churches in 28 countries are now participating in this ministry. In 2012 Forward Movement published the book The Bible Challenge, which Marek edited, after inviting 102 archbishops, bishops, cathedral and seminary deans, biblical scholars, theologians and priests from around the world to contribute meditations, questions and prayers to accompany the Read the Bible in a Year reading plan. Copies are available in the church office. Marek and his wife, Mims, have three daughters, Emily, Marguerite and Isabelle and two Welsh Pembroke Corgis. When not serving our church, Marek enjoys tennis, swimming, fly-fishing, reading, travel, raising orchids, studying French, Italian and Spanish and gardening.
